Bright Rubick bursting to win as trainer John Ramsey hopes to gain a start in Gai Waterhouse Classic
Trainer John Ramsey is keeping his options open in NSW and Queensland for stable star Bright Rubick as he looks to chase a well-earned breakthrough for his talented mare this weekend.
Bright Rubick has been nominated for both the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1200m) at Ipswich and Benchmark 78 for fillies and mares over 1300m at Rosehill on Saturday.
Ramsey is keen to see his daughter of Rubick head north to tackle the stakes assignment but her low rating has required the Scone horseman to have a back-up plan close to home.
Bright Rubick has been racing in top form without winning this preparation, finishing runner-up in three of her four starts including a narrow second to Nicci’s Fling at Randwick last time out.
The only time she has failed to finish runner-up during that sequence was a seventh in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic at Scone two starts ago but Ramsey remains keen for Bright Rubick to earn some valuable black type.

“It’s not every day of the week that you get a crack at a Listed race so we will probably go up there and have a crack if she gets in the field and draws well,” Ramsey said.
“It will depend on where she draws and she’s got to make the field too so I thought I would keep two options there for her and decided later on.
“She is going good. A few things went wrong last preparation and every track we tried her on she bottomed out but we've spaced her runs this preparation.
“She has appreciated that and has been racing well.”
Bright Rubick is rated a $15 chance with TAB fixed odds in the Gai Waterhouse Classic where 32 horses have been nominated and a final field of 16 runners will be declared on Wednesday.
Final fields will be declared on Wednesday morning.
