Annabel Neasham made a dash to Queanbeyan to give stable stars a final workout for Grand Finals
Trainer Annabel Neasham had to make a 500km return trip but she got the fast gallop on a grass track she so desperately wanted for Golden Slipper hopeful Queen Of Wizardry and Rosehill Guineas favourite Mo’unga at Queanbeyan on Monday.
The grass tracks at Neasham’s stable base of Warwick Farm are waterlogged and closed for fast work so the trainer ‘had to think outside the square’.
“I was racking my brain how to get these horses onto the grass for their final gallops,” Neasham said.
“It was a very late decision to call the Queanbeyan club at 7am (on Monday) to see if I could work both Mo’unga and Queen Of Wizardry between races.

“I’m incredibly grateful to the club and the stewards who gave us permission to give both horses the really good workout they needed.”
Neasham made the long float trip to Queanbeyan to supervise the gallop and by chance race jockey Tommy Berry just happened to be in the area visiting friends.
Berry put Mo’unga through his paces while Kayla Nisbet rode Queen Of Wizardry as the pair produced a strong workout over 1000m that pleased their trainer.
“The track was heavy but they came home in a tick over 36s for the last 600m,” Neasham said.
“The gallop will top off the preparations of both horses for Saturday and I think the trip away will do them the world of good, too.”
Neasham also threw an entry for Mo’unga into the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes on Saturday but confirmed the three-year-old will target the Rosehill Guineas.

Meanwhile, Nash Rawiller’s appeal against a careless riding suspension will be heard on Thursday and will ensure he is free to partner unbeaten filly Four Moves Ahead in the Golden Slipper.
Rawiller was suspended for his winning ride on Petronius at the Kensington meeting on March 17.
The champion jockey’s licence to ride has been suspended from Friday, March 26 to Sunday, April 4, but under the local rules of racing, the Appeal Panel has the discretion to defer the commencement of any suspensions for two days.
With the Golden Slipper postponed from last Saturday, Racing NSW stewards accept these are unusual circumstances and will make application at Thursday’s hearing for Rawiller’s penalty to commence after he rides at Rosehill on Saturday.
