Andrew Adkins continues build up to racing return after horror race fall in 2020
Popular Sydney jockey Andrew Adkins returned to the trials on Friday as he prepares for his return to race riding.
Adkins hasn’t ridden at the races since suffering serious injuries in a race fall at Rosehill in July.
Adkins suffered a broken leg, collarbone, ribs and a punctured lung in the controversial incident that saw Hugh Bowman suspended and country galloper Hot ‘N’ Hazy euthanised.
Adkins spent more than two weeks in hospital before heading back to Port Macquarie to continue his recovery on the NSW Mid-North Coast. He since returned to Sydney and has ramped up his rehabilitation over recent months before resuming trackwork last month.

On Friday, Adkins rode in four barrier trials, winning two – one for his former boss Ron Quinton and Peter and Paul Snowden.
“I’ve been at trackwork a bit over two weeks now and it feels like everything’s gone quick but during the time off it was such a long drag,” Adkins told Sky Racing.

“I’m here now at the trials and that’s another little milestone and now can’t wait to get back to the races.
“I feel really good. My leg’s holding up good, the fitness needs a bit of work but we’ll get there.
“I’m just happy my leg feels strong and I felt strong in the saddle.”

Adkins says he plans to continue riding trackwork and in trials for at least another two weeks then he plans to return to the races after the Rosehill meeting on February 20.
“I’m clear to ride after the 18th of February but I set myself a target of a month after starting to ride trackwork so I probably won’t ride until the following week,” he said.
