Ryder Cup hopeful found out he’d been snubbed in most brutal way possible
American golfer Keegan Bradley has revealed how he brutally discovered that he wouldn’t be featuring at this year’s Ryder Cup. The 37-year-old, who has two Ryder Cup appearances to his name, found out that he missed the cut after receiveing a peculiar call from streaming giant Netflix.
Bradley has been in fine form this year after claiming an impressive seven top-20 finishes throughout this season’s PGA Tour. The results include wins at this October’s Zozo Championship in Japan and the Travelers Championship in Connecticut back in June.
The six-time PGA Tour winner also came close at the Farmers Insurance Open in January but missed out by two points to fellow countryman Max Homa. Sadly this wouldn’t be the only narrow disappointment this year after he discovered he would miss out on the latest USA Ryder Cup team.
Bradley failed to automatically qualify for the prestigious tournament, having only accumulated 7,600 Ryder Cup points across the season. In comparison, Xander Schauffele earned over 9,450 points, which was enough to claim the sixth, and final, automatic qualifying spot.
Bradley’s only other alternative was via Team USA captain Zach Johnson’s six wild card picks. But those instead went to Sam Burns, Rickie Fowler, Brooks Koepka, Collin Morikawa, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas
The American was therefore set to receive the dreaded call from Johnson to confirm his fate, however, he instead discovered the news after a phone call from a producer involved with the Netflix docu-series ‘Full Swing’.
“I got a text that came through Zach Johnson saying ‘Hey guys, I’m going to be calling everybody tomorrow morning,'” he said via the Fore Play podcast. “So I’m like ‘Oh s***, I’ve got another night now of sweating this out.’
“I wake up, I’m very tired, and I get a call from Netflix and they say ‘Keegan we’ve got a camera crew five minutes from your house.’ Why would they be sending a camera crew if I’m not going to get picked? For the first time I let my brain think ‘I did it.’ Why would they be rushing a camera crew to my house?”

Unfortunately for the golfer, who is yet to win at the Ryder Cup in his two appearances, the call was bad news. “And as soon as I picked up the phone it was like a, ‘Hey Keegan…” He said using a saddened tone.
“And I look over at Jill (Stacey, his wife) a second into the call and I go no this isn’t it… But you know he (Zach Johnson) was really nice and hung up the phone. You’re all going to see this, but this is real life and no one’s ever seeing this call before. And it was devastating.”
The Ryder Cup starts on September 25 at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy.
