The Masters is back for another four days of high-quality golf, after five months of waiting. Dustin Johnson is the favourite to win the Green Jacket at Augusta this year, but he faces tough competition from all of the usual suspects.

After just over 140 days, golf fans can get excited for the 2021 edition of the Masters.

It’s the 85th birthday of the competition, with Johnson aiming to retain his crown.

The American breezed to victory last year, scoring 20 under par, including two stunning 65-shot rounds.

He ended the competition five shots clear of joint second-placed Cameron Smith and Sungjae Im.

Johnson is currently the favourite to win the Masters this year, after breaking a competition record last year for the best score.

If he does win, it’ll be the fourth consecutive year that the Masters has been won by an American.

The reigning champ has admitted that his game is in “good shape” ahead of the tournament.

Johnson said: “Maybe not quite as good of shape as it was in November, but I feel like it’s coming together.

“I’m starting to hit a lot of the same shots and getting a lot more comfortable over the golf ball. I feel like it’s in pretty good form.

“But I’ve worked on it the last couple of weeks and feel like I’ve played really good in Austin from tee-to-green.

“I felt like if we were playing stroke play, I felt like I would have played really well. When it’s match play, things happen.”

Johnson remains at the top of the bookies’ favourites to win the Masters 2021.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “The first golf major championship of the year is back in its usual springtime slot after 2020’s delayed event was played in November and won by Dustin Johnson.

“The world number one is looking to retain the prestigious green jacket and leads the betting as the 9/1 favourite on Betfair Exchange.

“2020’s favourite Bryson DeChambeau failed to live up to expectations when finishing joint-34th, but he remains very popular amongst punters again and is 12/1 to add to his 2020 US Open win with a second major championship victory.

“Jordan Speith is 13/1 to win a second Masters jacket fresh from his recent win in the Texas Open. Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas are also 14/1.

“Rory McIlroy is Britain’s leading hope and is 19/1 to win his first green jacket and complete a Grand Slam by winning all four major golf tournaments.

“It is worth looking beyond the favourites as the average odds of the winner in the last 12 years has been 50/1, which makes Webb Simpson (49/1), Paul Casey (49/1) and Cameron Smith (54/1) interesting outsiders in a championship where a large number of players will believe they have a good chance of winning.”
