Hideki Matsuyama, 29, is a professional golfer from Japan.

He is competing in the 2021 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.

The Japanese golfer competed in the competition in 2020, coming in 13th place.

This year, he took an early first-round lead, finishing his round on three under par, with an eagle on the par-five eighth hole.

The professional golfer was reportedly introduced to the sport by his father aged four.

He transferred schools during his younger years in search of better golfing opportunities.

Matsuyama revealed he had welcomed his first child in 2017, sending shockwaves around the world as no-one had known he was married.

He revealed he married his bride in January 2017, before the couple welcomed a daughter in July.

At the time, he told reporters: “No one really asked me if I was married, so I didn’t have to answer that question.

“But I felt that after the PGA would be a good time because our baby is born and I thought that would be a good time to let everyone know.”

In 2017, Matsuyama was ranked second in the world, but he said his new marriage and baby did not distract him from his impressive game.

He added: “Of course, happy about the family.

“But golf is golf.

“Once we get on the golf course, that’s what I’m thinking about.”

Not much is known about Matsuyama’s wife, but reports suggest she is slightly younger than him.

Reports have emerged over the years claiming she is called Mei and the couple have known each other since high school.

The name of their daughter is believed to be named Kanna, according to the PGA Tour website.

Matsuyama has never publicly confirmed the names of his family members.
