Warner channels his inner Ronaldo in T20 World Cup press conference

Australia opener David Warner has become the latest sports star to follow Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo 's lead and remove bottles of Coca-Cola ahead of a press conference.

Ronaldo notably started the trend at the European Championship, removing two bottles of Coca-Cola from view and replacing them with a bottle of water at his post-match press conference after Portugal's win over Hungary.

Ronaldo's actions caused the company's share price to plummet and was imitated by several stars during the remainder of the tournament, including Italy's Manuel Locatelli.

France star Paul Pogba removed a bottle of non-alcoholic Heineken, while Scotland's John McGinn and Ukraine's Andriy Yarmolenko both made light of the incident.

Now, Warner has followed in Ronaldo's footsteps, removing two bottles of Coca-Cola at the start of his post-match press conference after Australia's win over Sri Lanka at the T20 World Cup.

Warner was asked to put the bottles back, but made reference to Ronaldo before doing so, saying: "If it is good enough for Cristiano, it is good enough for me."

Warner was speaking after he enjoyed an excellent return to form, striking 65 from 42 balls in the win over Sri Lanka.

Before that innings, Warner had not made a score higher than 14 since April and his place in the side had come under scrutiny.

"Everyone was talking about my form, which was not a thing I was worried about," Warner said.

"It was about going out there and starting well. That’s all we're trying to do – apply pressure to the bowlers.

"But it was great to spend some time in the middle, running between the wickets. Little things like that just keep your mind ticking.

"We haven’t played much cricket over the last six to 12 months so I haven’t been in those situations too often."
