Travis Head has revealed what really happened at the Oval last week after Australia accused England of avoiding a post-Ashes beer following their rollercoaster series.
The angry Australians briefed media that Ben Stokes’s side had snubbed their offer of having a few drinks following a closely-fought series this summer, claiming that the hosts locked their dressing room doors when approached half a dozen times.
England captain Stokes, however, stated that his side’s post-series ‘wrap’ took longer than usual as tributes were paid to the retiring Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali and, by the time speeches had finished, the Aussies had left the South London cricket ground.
That assertion was dismissed by the Australian camp, with one source saying: ‘We don’t really care, we’ve got the urn, but after a hard-fought series it is pretty pathetic.’
And now Australia batter Head has admitted that while the issue had been ‘played up a little bit’, the tourists made numerous attempts to reach out to the English.

The Aussies briefed the media that England turned down the offer of a few beers
‘It’s been played up a little bit,’ Head told the Willow Talk podcast.
‘Post-match, I think we hung around for a little bit. (England) had a couple of retirements, and, I think, a few staff that (were) going.
‘We sort of knocked a couple of times and got told two minutes, which turned into an hour, and the boys got a bit fed up.
‘But yeah, a few of the boys met up with them afterwards, and I’ve been in contact with a couple of the guys that I was close with about the differences in the timings. A bit disappointing, but I don’t think it was by design.’
Head revealed that the Aussies eventually saw some of the English players at a nightclub later in the evening, but they hadn’t intended to meet up.
‘We didn’t go there together… It’s just by design again that both teams found themselves at the same place,’ Head said.
‘I think it was a Monday night, but there are not many places to go on a Monday night in London, so we found ourselves at the same place… shared one or two vodka Red Bulls together and then off to the flight.
‘There was a few boys that I know – Ben Duckett was sort of chirping me a little bit about us dogging them and I chirped in a little bit about them dogging us, so all in good spirits,’ he laughed.
‘Like I said, I think it was all a bit laughed off from us, and then the media played it up a little bit. It wasn’t meant to be, but those things happen.’
