SuperCoach AFL: 11 reasons to join Australia’s favourite fantasy game today

So you missed Round 1 lockout?

That don’t impress me much.

But does it mean your hopes of KFC SuperCoach glory are done for 2021?

Not by a long shot.

There are a host of reasons to still get your KFC SuperCoach team entered before Round 2, which starts on Thursday night when Carlton takes on Collingwood in front of 75,000 fans at the MCG.

If you think that sounds exciting, wait until you see our 11 reasons to still join KFC SuperCoach today.

ROUND 2 INTEL: KEY KFC SUPERCOACH TRADE CALLS

BURNING QUESTIONS: THE PHANTOM’S ROUND 2 ADVICE

1. The lessons learned from Round 1

While thousands of coaches wallow in Patrick Dangerfield’s tribunal date or Matthew Rowell’s knee injury, you avoided those two hassles. Sign up today and instead of burning trades to replace Dangerfield, Rowell — or both — you can choose a team of 30 players you know will be available in Round 2. If you weren’t impressed by Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy or Lachie Neale and know you can get them cheaper, you can dodge these expensive players too.

2. The premiums to pick are more obvious

KFC SuperCoaches who went with Clayton Oliver over Lachie Neale at M1 were laughing in Round 1 when they saved $65,000 and banked an extra 45 points. Now the first round has been played, you can assess the likely break evens of the top-priced premiums before jumping on. Neale is projected to have a break even above 200 for Round 3, when prices change. So why not sign up and save yourself a stack of your budget by choosing Oliver or Jack Macrae instead? It’s similar in the ruck where Tom Hickey outscored Gawn and Grundy in Round 1.

3. The rookies are still cheap

The beauty of KFC SuperCoach — well one of them — is prices don’t change until after three rounds. That means rookies such as Errol Gulden (139 points), Matthew Flynn (140 points) and James Rowe (104 points) are still at their lowest price despite hitting triple figures in Round 1. Lock these players in and know your team value will jump significantly when prices move after Round 3.

4. You can still start a league or draft

You won’t be alone if you sign up this week. Rally a group of mates, enter a 10 or 18-team league and pick your KFC SuperCoach team for Round 2. Just ensure you get everyone into your league by Thursday night when the round starts — even if you need to add a few of our experts such as The Phantom or Heath Shaw. You can also hold a draft this week and your competition will start in Round 2 with everyone on a level playing field. Check out all the fun The Advertiser crew had at their draft night below.

5. There’s weekly prizes to be won every round

The $50k grand prize is admittedly going to be tough to win when you’re starting more than 2000 points behind the Round 1 winner. But there’s still 22 weekly prizes ($1000 or doubled to $2000 if subscribed to KFC SuperCoach Plus) to be won. That’s a lot of KFC just for having the best team in any given round!

Congratulations to Julien, coach of the Crazy Frogs, who top-scored in KFC #supercoach with 2404 points! ?

6. There’s still 22 rounds to make up ground on the pack

If you break it down by points, you would need to make up about 109 every round until the end of the season to catch current leader Crazy Frogs. That would be a mighty achievement, but with a bit of luck and the right trades, who knows? At the very least, you could target a top-111 finish and still land yourself an end-of-season prize.

7. Become part of the KFC SuperCoach community

Check out the SuperCoach hashtag on Twitter and you will realise you’ve become involved in an active community which shares plenty of banter every round! You’re not only taking on your mates, but more than 150,000 other coaches who love footy just like you do.

8. You’ll still have 30 trades

Unlucky coaches with both Matthew Rowell and Patrick Dangerfield will burn two of their trades this round to replace that duo. By signing up ahead of Round 2, you have unlimited trades until the round starts. Then while other coaches are already two trades down, you’ll have the advantage of two additional trades to target a full premium side and be more aggressive.

9. Enjoy weekly podcasts and advice from our experts to help your team

Our team of experts from across the country release weekly podcasts (The KFC SuperCoach podcast and The Phantom’s Lair) to help your team selections. We also host weekly live videos and other Q&A sessions on the News Corp websites where your burning questions can be answered.

10. You don’t have to be an expert

You don’t have to be a numbers guru or even love footy to play KFC SuperCoach. Take last year’s No. 1 ranked female — 73-year-old Elizabeth Mullin. She was introduced by KFC SuperCoach by her grandson Zak and only started taking it seriously last year as a way to stay entertained in lockdown. She finished 75th overall, a mighty effort. Many KFC SuperCoaches will tell you it’s often trading with your gut, rather than relying purely on numbers, which pays off.

11. KFC SuperCoach Plus will give you an edge over your rivals to catch those who signed up in Round 1

KFC SuperCoach Plus makes Australia’s favourite fantasy game even easier, providing indicators to tell you who’s in and out each round, study break evens to know when prices are going to change and has a team optimisation button which picks your best available team for you each round. For only $24.95 for an annual pass, it’s the best friend of every KFC SuperCoach.
