Stuart Broad is just the 10th player in Test history to win 150 caps

TOP SPIN AT THE TEST: Stuart Broad is just the 10th player in Test cricket history to rack up 150 caps… while Australia opener Marcus Harris averages only NINE against England after his latest Ashes failure

  • Marcus Harris was caught behind off Stuart Broad in another failure for hosts
  • Only two England players now have more Test caps than fast bowler Broad
  • He also tried to get into David Warner’s mind after tormenting him in 2019

Australia took command of the second Ashes Test after losing just two wickets on the first day in Adelaide.

David Warner fell five runs short of a century when he was caught by Stuart Broad in the covers off Ben Stokes, with Marcus Harris having fallen in the first session.

But Marnus Labuschagne – who is sat on 95 not out overnight – and Steve Smith saw the hosts to 221 for two at the close of play. Here, Sportsmail‘s LAWRENCE BOOTH delivers the best statistics from day one.

England fast bowler Stuart Broad became the 10th player in Test history to win 150 caps

Marcus Harris’s latest failure took his Test record against England to 73 runs in nine innings at an average of nine, with a best of 19.

Stuart Broad became the 10th player in Test history to win 150 caps. Ninth in the list is former Australian captain Allan Border on 156.

Only two England players are ahead of him: Jimmy Anderson, playing his 167th Test here, and Alastair Cook, who played 161.

When Marnus Labuschagne brought up his 2,000th Test run in his 34th innings, he was the fifth-quickest to get there.

The only four to beat his mark are Don Bradman (22 innings), West Indian George Headley (32), England’s Herbert Sutcliffe and Australia’s Mike Hussey (33 each).

Three of the five Test batsmen with the highest averages on Australian soil (from a minimum of 10 Tests) were all in action on the first day.

Labuschagne averages 77 at home, Steve Smith 67 and Warner 64.
