Huge blow as star batter Beth Mooney breaks jaw ahead of Ashes
Australia’s star batter Beth Mooney is set to undergo surgery after suffering a fractured jaw in a training session gone wrong on the eve of the women’s Ashes series.
Mooney, the leading run-scorer of the WBBL season just gone, was participating in a net session on Monday evening when she was struck in the jaw.

Mooney was immediately taken for scans which confirmed the injury.
She will undergo surgery on Tuesday with her return date to be confirmed following the procedure.
The injury is set to rule Mooney out for the Ashes series but will also put the 28-year-old in doubt for the T20 World Cup in New Zealand which begins in March.
It is yet another injury blow for Australia who are already missing star duo Georgia Wareham and Sophie Molineux due to injury.
Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry is also miss Australia’s warm-up matches against Australia A on Tuesday due to a COVID-19 scare but will arrive in Adelaide ahead of the Ashes series which begins on Thursday.
