Cricket fans couldn’t help but laugh at Marnus Labuschagne fixing his grip

Marnus Labuschagne left himself wide open to internet jokesters by showcasing an unusual technique while fixing his batting grip in the Third Test.

After spending most of the day at the crease, the Aussie number three had some issues with the covering on his bat handle in the final session and … well, perhaps you should just see for yourself.

Most of the replies are understandably unsafe to print, but one person wrote: “The internet can totally be trusted to be mature about this.”

But given Channel 7 ran a package on the blooming bromance between Labuschagne and Steve Smith during its day one coverage, you can only imagine the jokes made about those two after this latest footage.

The star duo will resume on day two with Australia at 2/166.

Smith (31 not out) showed terrific intent after joining Labuschagne (67 not out) and ironically put it down to a tweak to his own grip.

“I was just trying to hold the grip a bit tighter,” he said. “I’ve been struggling, so I was getting into good positions today. It was good to get a couple of boundaries early. Marnus played well, hopefully we go along well tomorrow.”

Can't say we've seen this way of fixing grip before… ?

Australia recovered from an early setback to build a promising platform in a rain-hit first inningsas Will Pucovski contributed 62 in an impressive maiden Test innings.

“It was a pretty incredible experience, it meant everything to me to be honest,” said Pucovski on making his debut.

“It was a very nice batting wicket and I’m hopeful with the amount of batting that’s in now and what we’ve got to come that we can post a really good total.”
