Jos Buttler is prepared to rule himself out of the Ashes if his family are not allowed to join him in Australia.
England’s vice-captain in the absence of Ben Stokes for their series against India has already decided not to return for the completion of the Indian Premier League in the UAE next month and is now considering missing the biggest series of them all.
‘Covid is challenging for everyone and Australia has had a very strict policy in how they are dealing with it,’ said Buttler, whose wife Louise is expecting their second child next month.

‘And an added complication is how long we’ve been living in bio-secure bubbles. Even playing cricket in England is almost like being on tour.’
The baby is due on September 10, the first day of the last Test against India at Old Trafford, and Buttler is prepared to miss the match as well as the rest of the IPL campaign with Rajasthan Royals.
He told the Sunday Times: ‘I’ve sacrificed a lot for cricket and my wife and family have sacrificed a lot. You have to be open to saying no.’
