Ben Stokes absent from England’s T20 World Cup squad as Tymal Mills earns recall
Ben Stokes has not been named in England 's T20 World Cup squad as the all-rounder continues his indefinite break from the sport.
Stokes stepped away from cricket earlier this year to prioritise his mental health and to rest a finger injury which had not fully healed and he is not yet considering a return to the game.
England do, however, have until October 10 to make any further changes to their squad.
Despite Stokes' absence, England still boast a wealth of talent in their squad and will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy.
Liam Livingstone cemented his spot in the squad with a series of magnificent displays this summer for England, Lancashire and Birmingham Phoenix.
Tymal Mills, meanwhile, has earned a recall to the squad after his displays for Sussex in the T20 Blast and Southern Brave in The Hundred.
Speaking before The Hundred, England captain Eoin Morgan namechecked Mills as a player who could earn a spot in the World Cup squad with his performances at the tournament.
"There are guys playing in The Hundred like Tymal Mills who could easily present a case," Morgan said.
"He is an outstanding bowler, and we've always been in communication with him, wanting him to get fit, play as much cricket as possible, and leave him alone until the World Cup comes."
And Mills, who last played for England in February 2017, grabbed that opportunity with both hands, picking up eight wickets as he helped the Brave win the entire competition.
Lancashire legspinner Matt Parkinson is a notable omission, with Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali preferred as the main spin options and Hampshire's Liam Dawson getting named among the reserves.
Tom Curran and James Vince are two other reserves, with David Willey earning a spot in the full squad after missing out for the 2019 World Cup.
England coach Chris Silverwood said: "We are excited about the prospect of challenging to win the ICC T20 World Cup.
"I believe we have selected a squad that covers all bases and has the depth to be successful in what is expected to be a very competitive tournament featuring the best players in the world.
"Tymal Mills deserves his inclusion and has demonstrated over the past couple of years, but particularly this summer that he has all skills to succeed at this level.
"His exceptional pace is a standout, and the way he has spearheaded Sussex and Southern Brave's respective attacks in the short-form game has shown that he relishes the pressures of the big stage.
"He will add variety to our bowling unit, and we can't wait to see him play in a major international tournament."
