Oleksandr Usyk’s manager Egis Klimas has revealed that Usyk will not face Deontay Wilder next. Klimas has affirmed that they are only interested in the undisputed fight with Tyson Fury right now.

Usyk had previously expressed interest in a fight with Wilder after he failed to come to an agreement on a date with Fury. The Gypsy King suggested December 17 in Saudi Arabia, but Usyk declared that he would be out of competition until early 2023.

As a result, Fury approached Anthony Joshua to stage an all-British encounter at the back end of the year but that has since fallen by the wayside as well. Usyk and Fury are understood to still be in negotiations to stage the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era and Klimas is keen to get it over the line.

Speaking to ESNews about why the fight has taken so long to book, Klimas said: “I think because he understands he can lose to Usyk. He’s not afraid to fight, he’s not afraid because he is a fighter, he can’t be afraid, we can’t say he’s afraid, he’s not afraid. He’s not interested because he understands he can lose the fight.

“Let me tell you this, I am telling everybody. Usyk cannot beat Fury, he cannot beat, he can win Fury. Fury is a giant guy, big guy so I don’t think somebody can beat him, but Usyk can win.

When asked about the possibility of the Wilder fight happening, Klimas replied: “We’re interested only in unification at this point, to unify with Fury.”

Wilder faces Robert Helenius on October 15 in his first fight since sustaining a second consecutive stoppage defeat to Fury. Usyk is expected to be ringside for the contest and looked likely to be next in line for the winner of the WBC eliminator bout

Speaking about the contest’s possibility during an interview with Morning Kombat, Wilder said: “I hear that Oleksandr Usyk will be at the fight, and I also hear that if Robert Helenius wins he is the mandatory challenger for that belt.

“Usyk is talking about fighting the winner of this fight and on the outside looking in I like him as a person and I value that so I hope he is a man of his word and wants to face the winner. Hopefully, he is a man of his word and when I look through him I see Wilder v Usyk for the winner of all the belts.”
