UFC star fears Tyron Woodley could "take a dive" against Jake Paul
UFC middleweight Darren Till is worried Tyron Woodley might be paid to lose against Jake Paul when the two fight later this month.
Woodley will make his first professional boxing appearance when he fights Paul next weekend on August 29. The fight will take place at 190 pounds and will be eight rounds.
Till, who lost out on the UFC welterweight title to Woodley at UFC 228 back in September 2018, recently voiced his concerns on The MMA Hour about Woodley's fight with Paul.
“Tyron Woodley beat me fair and square. Am I a better fighter than Tyron? Yeah, I truly believe. You know, I’m gonna keep stamping my name," Till said.
"But he beat me fair and square. And just, I’m very, very worried that like, he’s getting paid a large amount for taking, like, a dive or something. Very worried about that.”
Paul will look his fourth win inside the ring against Woodley. 'The Problem Child' defeated fellow YouTuber AnEsongib in his pro debut, former NBA star Nate Robinson in his second fight and most recently knocked out former UFC welterweight Ben Askren in March.
Since his most recent win, Paul has called for fights with UFC stars such as Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. He recently published a video showing a "hit list" that includes names such as pound-for-pound boxing No.1 Canelo Alvarez and his own brother, Logan Paul.
Till doesn't think Woodley looks confident in the build up to the fight. The Liverpudlian believes Paul has some skills as a boxer but is unsure on how the fight will play out.
“I don’t know. Listen, yeah and no. I don’t think so. But, just, I don’t know. He just doesn’t seem confident, like confident. I don’t know. I don’t know. I can’t commentate," Till continued.
Do you think Tyron Woodley can beat Jake Paul? Comment below
"I don’t know enough about; I don’t know how powerful Jake Paul is, with his team. I don’t know, mate. I just know that if Woodley wants to beat him, he can beat him. It’s simple.
"I’m not throwing hate at Jake Paul. The guy looks like he can box and looks like he’s training hard. So, you know, I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Till will look for his first win in almost two years when he takes on Derek Brunson on September 2. The card was originally set to take place in London, but was moved to Las Vegas due to Covid-19 restrictions affecting travel to the UK.
After losses to Woodley and Jorge Masvidal at 170 pounds, Till moved up to middleweight in 2019. 'The Gorilla' defeated Kelvin Gastelum in his debut at the weight class, but lost to former champion Robert Whittaker last July.
