Tyson Fury 'would only step back in the ring for a unification bout'

Is this the moment that proves Tyson Fury DOESN’T plan to retire? Gypsy King’s wife Paris is caught saying ‘no chance’ as he talks about hanging up his gloves after brutally stopping Dillian Whyte

  • Tyson Fury stopped Dillian Whyte in the sixth round with a stunning uppercut
  • The Gypsy King had promised his wife that he would retire after the fight
  • Following his victory he said he would stick to his promise to his wife Paris
  • Paris though could be seen mouthing ‘no chance’ as he talked up retirement
  • She later said the only reason he would step in the ring is for a unification bout

Tyson Fury’s wife, Paris, was seen mouthing ‘no chance’ as the Gypsy King talked up his retirement plans following his stunning victory over Dillian Whyte.

The Gypsy King retained the WBC heavyweight world championship with a technical knockout win in what he said would be his final fight.

Fury, who sent Whyte to the deck with a ferocious uppercut in the sixth round in front of 94,000 people at Wembley Stadium, said after the fight that he would be sticking to his promise to his wife Paris that he would retire.

Immediately after the fight, when asked if he would be back in the ring, Fury said: ‘I promised my lovely wife, Paris, of 14 years, after the (Deontay) Wilder 3 fight that would be it and I meant it.

‘I had a war, it was a great trilogy and I meant that but I got offered to fight at Wembley at home and I believed that I owed it to the fans, I owed it to every person in the United Kingdom to come here and fight at Wembley.

‘Now it’s all done, I have to be a man of my word and I think this is it, this might be the final curtain for the Gypsy King and what a way to go out.’

As the Gypsy King was speaking, Paris was seen mouthing ‘no chance’ while speaking to somebody else in the ring.

Backstage after the fight, she told BT Sport that Fury had ‘nothing left to prove’ and the only reason he would step back into the ring would be for a unification bout.

Paris said the only reason Tyson would return to the ring is for a unification bout, which would likely come against the winner of the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua (pictured above)

When asked if she felt Tyson ‘owed’ retirement to her, she said: ‘I do a little bit, I would like him to come home now, he has nothing more to prove.

‘That’s the thing if he had something to do I would say ‘yeah Tyson go do it,’ but he has nothing to prove.

‘Unless he really wants to box on and he’s doing it for more money, fame, he doesn’t need that – he’s the most famous man on the planet tonight.

‘He does not need to be any more famous. We’re very blessed and lucky not to need any more money.

‘I mean the man has done everything he can do, I mean, I’m happy with what we are and what we’ve got and for Tyson to keep boxing, it just seems, for what reason?

‘I know that in my heart the only reason Tyson would come back is for a unification fight.

‘That would be the only reason Tyson Fury would come back in the ring as he has nothing left to prove. To keep boxing on, there’s nothing there for him.’

A unification bout would likely be against one of Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua, who are expected to have their rematch in the summer.

All hopes had been for a dream British clash between Fury and Joshua, before the latter lost his heavyweight title belts to Usyk last year.

The Gypsy King delivered a dominating performance against Whyte from start to finish.

The ‘Body Snatcher’ was floored by Fury’s wicked uppercut and was unable to continue with referee Mark Lyson rightly waving it off.

After the fight, Tyson said: ‘Dillian Whyte is a warrior and I believe he will be a world champion.

Fury declared himself as one of the ‘greatest heavyweights of all time’ after his victory

‘But tonight, I’m one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and unfortunately for Dillian Whyte he needed to face me here tonight.

‘There’s no disgrace, he’s a top game man, he’s as strong as a bull and has the heart of a lion.

‘But you’re not messing with a mediocre heavyweight, you’re messing with the best man on the planet.’
