Tyson Fury brands Anthony Joshua a “mug” after Deontay Wilder criticism
Heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury has branded fellow British boxer Anthony Joshua a 'mug’, after he said Deontay Wilder ‘lacked a game plan’ in his recent bout with Fury.
The Gypsy King successfully defended his heavyweight title against Wilder, as the Englishman defeated the Bronze Bomber with an 11th round knockout in their third, and most probably final bout.
Over a month on from Fury’s impressive victory, Joshua has given his opinion on the fight and insinuates his fellow Englishman’s win was more down to his opponent’s flaws rather than through Fury’s own merit.
In an interview JD Sports Roundtable Joshua spoke of how Wilder’s lack of a game plan allowed the Gypsy King to take advantage.
AJ said: “He [Wilder] tried, but to get that power and that ferociousness, you have to have it up here [points to his head].
"Before you have it just here [clenches fists] at that level, you have to have it here [points to his head] as well."
Joshua’s quotes were then uploaded to Twitter by boxing news outlet Boxing Scene, to which Fury fired back a fiery response.
The Gypsy King quote tweeted the initial post, and replied: “irony of this mug.”
The pair have exchanged verbal blows in the past, developing a fierce rivalry without ever facing off in the ring.
Boxing fans around the world have eagerly waited for the pair to battle out an all-British bout, which would no doubt go down as one of the country’s biggest fights in recent times.

The bout came extremely close earlier this year, after the pair agreed to battle it out in Saudi Arabia, however a clause in the contract of Fury’s and Wilder’s agreement ensured the Gypsy King must fight the American first, leading to the collapse of the all-English meet.
Despite the fall through many had hoped that Fury vs Joshua was just around the corner, however after the latter lost his heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk in September AJ’s full concentration is on his rematch with the Ukrainian early next year.
Fury meanwhile is still waiting on who his next challenger for his WBC heavyweight title will be, with the decision of who is next in line in arbitration with the World Boxing Council.
One name heavily linked is that of another fellow Brit in Dillian Whyte, however Fury’s dad John recently stated he wants his son to take on Usyk after claiming Whyte and Joshua are ‘not in his class’.
