Mike Tyson insists Tyson Fury has Deontay Wilder's 'number'

Mike Tyson believes Tyson Fury has Deontay Wilder’s ‘number’ as boxing legend insists there’s ‘NO way’ the Gypsy King doesn’t win their Las Vegas trilogy showdown next month

  • Tyson Fury is set to face Deontay Wilder for a third time in Las Vegas next month
  • Their first fight ended in a controversial split decision draw in Los Angeles
  • Fury then claimed the WBC title after defeating the American in February 2020
  • And that has led Iron Mike to believe the Gypsy King has his opponents’ number

Mike Tyson believes Tyson Fury has Deontay Wilder’s number and there is no way that he doesn’t win their heavyweight trilogy clash next month.

The duo are set to face off for a third and potentially final time on 24 July in Las Vegas in what will be Fury’s first defence of his WBC world title.

Their first fight took place in December three years ago, and ended in a controversial split decision draw at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles before Fury convincingly stopped Wilder inside seven rounds in the rematch.

Their first fight took place in December three years ago, and ended in a controversial split decision draw

Wilder immediately triggered his rematch clause and was granted another crack at Fury after a judge ruled in his favour at arbitration, ending any hope of a Battle of Britain between the Gypsy King and Anthony Joshua.

The heavyweight rivals came face to face earlier this week for the first time since Fury demolished Wilder in their rematch, but the Bronze Bomber refused to speak to his opponent.

Wilder was ridiculed for making a host of elaborate excuses for his knockout defeat to Fury and heavyweight legend Tyson, who returned to the ring in November last year for a post-retirement exhibition fight with Roy Jones Jr that ended in a draw – believes that the Gypsy King has Wilder’s number.

Asked if the trilogy fight could go either way, Tyson told his Hotboxing podcast with Andy Ruiz Jr and Henry Cejudo: ‘No way, you know, Deontay Wilder has nothing to be sad about and nothing to complain about.

But 14 months later Fury ended the American’s five-year stranglehold on the WBC title

And Iron Mike cannot see past a win for The Gypsy King against the American next month

‘He has put up a great fight… I just think Tyson Fury has his number.’

The trilogy fight is going ahead after a court ruled that a third fight between Wilder and Fury must occur before September 15.

The ruling prevented Fury from facing Anthony Joshua in an all-British mega showdown, which had been slated for August 14 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Joshua is instead now likely to face Oleksandr Usyk in a mandatory defence in September at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fury’s fight against Wilder stopped him from facing Anthony Joshua in a British showdown

But Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn – who represents Joshua – admits the British unified world champion probably fears his undisputed fight with Fury will now never happen.

‘AJ, in his head, probably thinks the fight will never happen. I would like to be more hopeful and I think it will happen.

‘If AJ knocks out Usyk and Fury knocks out Wilder then, in four months’ time, we are talking about an even bigger fight.

‘One could lose or look bad but I do get the feeling if they both win then the fight is huge. I am hoping it works out for the best.’
