Joshua vs Fury ‘could be in UK’ due to potential Hearn contract issue
Eddie Hearn could be open to holding Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury in the UK this summer because of a potential contract issue.
That’s according to Frank Warren, who is on the other side of the negotiating table to the all-British heavyweight clash.
AJ and the Gypsy King have signed a contract which will see them attempt to unify all of the belts in the top weight division.
And fans will not have to wait in eager anticipation for too long, with the lucrative deal scheduling the fight for 2021.
But will the fight be held in the UK? Hearn says it could despite vast interest from the middle east.
Reacting to the news when speaking in his Daily Star column, Warren said: “Queensberry continue to work on making Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua for this year, with contracts having been signed last week.
"Bob Arum and I have been speaking daily and considering venue options, with Wembley remaining on the table – which would be great for the fans.
"This is dependent on Covid-19 restrictions obviously, as in order for the UK to have a chance of hosting the fight, we need a good gate to help pay the fighters.
"It was good to see that Hearn accepted this week that the UK has to be considered an option.
"This is down to a combination of things – one is he’s aware that the way we guarantee keeping all the heavyweight belts on the line is a summer bout, but I am sure he also has one eye on the expiration date of his contract with Sky AND AJ.
"Word on the street is Eddie may be leaving the Sky empire for the DAZN app, and I’m sure that AJ – a Sky ambassador – will have a tough decision to make about where he takes his career."
The contract does not yet cover the location or the fee each fighter will receive, meaning AJ or Fury could walk away from the bout still.
But Hearn has previously claimed the venue is likely to be resolved soon.
He said earlier this month: “We need the venue in place in the next 30 days. The next 28 days is the thought process of both teams.
“If we are going to deliver this fight late June, early July at the latest, we need to get that moving.

“Ultimately everyone is going to go now and look for the biggest site fee as a team and then present it to the fighters.
“It is the Middle East, Asia and America. We will present the UK option but it is impossible to move with security [because of Covid-19].
“There have been some obscure offers. We have to look at, I'll tell you one day.
“There are a lot of people that want to make a statement coming out of this pandemic and want to show they're open.
