Jake Paul targets Chavez Jr to disprove ‘fix’ claim and wants "f***ing patience"

Jake Paul has called on his fans to have patience as he looks to find a new opponent – having lined up former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr as a potential foe.

The former YouTuber is looking silence those who called his rematch victory over Tyron Woodley 'a fix' by beating a former world champion in his next outing – snubbing Tommy Fury.

Chavez Jr, the son of boxing legend legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, begun his professional career in 2003 and earned the WBC strap with a win over Sebastian Zbik in 2011.

Now 35, his record stands at 53 wins from 61 fights with 34 by the way of knockout, but he has lost three of his last five outings – one of which to UFC veteran Anderson Silva.

"It’s interesting. I like that fight a lot, because it silences the critics," Paul told Chris Mannix when asked about a potential meeting with Chavez Jr.

"He was a former world champion, and I know I could beat him. And you look at his record, it’s like 50 wins or something, and I don’t even know the losses, but it’s a good record.

"So that challenge excites me and I’m down. And this is what people don’t understand is that, even after I knocked out Woodley, they were all like, 'Fight a real boxer'."

Jake was able to organise a fight at short notice following the withdrawal of Fury, going on to say that the Love Island star does not deserve a reorganised bout.

He added: "I’m like 'you guys, I tried, and he dropped out of the fight two weeks before'.

"So I want to fight a real boxer, newsflash, and I’m going to. Just have some f****** patience."

Despite there being excitement over the bout, Chavez Jnr's Mexican countryman Jhonny Gonzalez has warned his fellow former world champion of what needs to happen should he lose.

Speaking to CVBJ, Gonzalez said: “It is a good business [what] these YouTubers are doing who want to face boxers.

"But if the Chavez Jnr [fight] happens, I just hope that Julio prepares well because if he loses to Paul then he had better retire from boxing."
