Jake Paul calls out Conor McGregor over sparring partner choice for Dustin Poirier rematch

UFC: McGregor lets punches fly in training for Poirier fight

Jake Paul has taken aim at Conor McGregor once again – this time criticising his preparations for his rematch with Dustin Poirier. The Notorious returns to the octagon on January 24 to take on the American, who he beat inside two in 2014.

Now Poirier is out for revenge but McGregor insists he has the capability to get the job done inside a minute this time around.

The 32-year-old is dropping back down to lightweight for the contest and was last in action against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone a year ago.

Now YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul is trying to rile McGregor ahead of his Fight Island showdown, as he targets an exhibition contest in the ring.

Back in December, he called out The Notorious in a foul-mouthed rant on Twitter: “My team sent you a $50 million offer this morning – $50 million cash, proof of funds – the biggest offer you’ve ever been offered.

“But you’re still scared to fight me, Conor. You’re ducking me ‘cause you don’t want to lose to a YouTuber. You’re 0-1 as a boxer.

“I’m 2-0 as a boxer. I just came off the eighth biggest pay-per-view event in history, but you want to fight Dustin ‘Prober’ who has less followers on Instagram than my dog – that’s a fact.”

In a new attempt to get under McGregor’s skin, Paul has done some digging into the UFC star’s training camp ahead of the clash with Poirier.

Speaking on his Instagram story, Paul said: “Conor’s taking easy fights. But he’s been sparring in Ireland.”

Using his fingers to mock McGregor sarcastically, Paul added: “He’s been boxing, going against some phenomenal, exciting Irish talent.

“This kid must be really good, because Conor’s a ‘good boxer’ right? And then we looked this kid up!

“Ladies and gentlemen, presenting to you: the big, bad, exciting Irish talent – Dylan Moran, the kid that Conor McGregor is sparring against. Take a look!”

Paul then shows footage of Moran in action in his only defeat which came at the Hans of Dennis Okoth in 2019.

Moran was stopped by a clubbing shot to the temple which he was unable to come back from. Paul added: “This is who Conor is calling a phenomenal boxer…”

The American then adds that he wants to take on Moran, claiming he would beat the Irish boxer inside a round.

McGregor recently shed light on his sparring sessions with Moran, replying to a fan on social media: “Very tough! I got a nice shot that clipped the nose upward and made it bleed.

“The rounds were super close tho. Razor! Dylan is one of the better boxers I’ve ever shared the ring with. A phenomenally exciting Irish talent!”
