Jake Paul and Tommy Fury to shake on $500,000 name-change bet this weekend

Tommy Fury will have to legally change his name if he loses to Jake Paul, despite what his promoter Frank Warren says.

The Love Island star had appeared to agree to a name-change bet with the YouTuber, but Warren later insisted that it had not been put in the pair's contract.

Paul proposed a bet where he would take a $500,000 pay cut from his purse should he lose, but Fury would have to change his name from ' Tommy Fury ' to 'Tommy Fumbles' if he can't get the win.

And Paul's management have assured fans that the pair will shake hands on the bet, which won't be put in writing, at their press conference on Saturday evening.

“Mr Paul contractually agreed to have his guaranteed purse reduced by $500,000 and paid to Mr Fury by Showtime within two business days of the fight should Jake lose," Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian told TalkSPORT.

“Quid pro quo, Mr Paul contractually required for Mr Fury to have $500,000 of his purse held back until Mr Fury legally became Mr Fumbles.

“Mr Fury was afforded 30 days to make the name change.

“Mr Fury did not agree and desired for the bet to be a handshake.

“This Saturday at the press conference, the handshake will seal the deal for the world to see. $500,000 or Mr Fumbles.”

Paul had shared a contract indicating the terms of the deal while the pair were going back-and-forth on social media, with Fury accepting, and the fight was announced last weekend.

"That's not in the contract," Warren responded when asked by iFL TV if the bout would result in Fury's name being changed.

"I think Jake Paul is a very good promoter and he's fun, there's no doubt about it.

"This one is going to be a lot of fun, they're going to be getting at each other, but it's going to be a fun promotion.

Will Tommy Fury put a stop to the Jake Paul hype train in Florida next month? Let us know in the comments section!

"I'm delighted to be doing it, it's good fun and I'm pleased for Tommy because he's going to be extremely well paid for it.

"You can't expect him to turn something like this down, it's huge money."

Fury's dad John has been critical of the Paul camp in the days since the bout was officially confirmed, mostly with issues related to the contract negotiations.

"The contract has been bizarre. If I was going to go through what they’ve put in the contract, we’d be here all day," he told BT Sport.

"I've said yes to everything; yes, yes, yes, yes. Do what you’ve got to do because I know Jake Paul can’t beat Tommy no matter what he does."

The pair will go head-to-head for the first time since their August clash at a press conference on Saturday, with tickets for the bout going on sale next week.

Fury is currently set up in Las Vegas for his training camp, where he will be joined in the coming weeks by his brother Tyson.
