How much will Gallen make from Huni bout?
Former rugby league star Paul Gallen will take on Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni in Sydney next week, but their respective earnings at set to be heavily lopsided.
Huni will be thrust into the bright lights of pay-per-view for the first time on Wednesday, while Gallen’s already been a main event drawcard with fights against the likes of Barry Hall and Lucas Browne.

But while Gallen has continued to say he’s purely in the sport to make as much money as he can, Huni is in for the long haul with ambitions of Olympic glory followed by a run at the world titles.
It should therefore come as no surprise the former NSW Blues captain will pocket 85 per cent of the money from the fight, as first revealed by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Gallen stands to pocket upwards of $1.275 million for the blockbuster showdown at Sydney’s International Convention Centre. Meanwhile, Huni will receive a substantially lower $225,000 cut of the $1.5 million windfall.

Huni’s father and trainer Rocki told The Sydney Morning Herald it was “never about the money”.
“We are getting Justis’ name out there, and what better platform than being involved in a Main Event with probably the most hated person in Queensland,” Rocki said.
“We have been to a few football functions this week, and I can’t believe that one person generates that much hate. It’s crazy.”
Huni’s promoter Dean Lonergan added that Gallen was getting “the best deal of his life”.
“He’s negotiated hard. The problem with Gallen is that not only does he want his slice of the pie and your slice, he also wants his neighbour’s slice of the pie, Justis Huni’s slice and any pie that’s in the street,” Lonergan said.
“It’s a good deal for Paul, a good deal for us and everyone gets out of it what they want.”

While Gallen has admitted he’s not in boxing for the prestige, a win could put him on the world stage, with Lonergan reportedly talking with International Boxing Federation authorities to have the bout sanctioned, meaning the winner would be thrust into the IBF world rankings.
“I’m currently negotiating with the IBF to make the Gallen-Huni fight for a regional title,” Lonergan said.
“What that means is that the winner of this fight will go into the top 15 in the world.
“And once Justis or Gallen are in the top 15, they could fight any one of the world champions in the heavyweight division, so this fight is a massive deal.
“I have been talking to the IBF for the past week and the chairman is seriously considering it.
“If Gallen beats Justis Huni, he would become world-ranked which would be phenomenal for a guy who was a rugby league player.”
For Huni, the fight will come just three weeks after his most recent bout against Christian Tsoye on May 26
But he’s not worried about the quick turnaround, as it will put him in good stead for an Olympic charge, as he looks to bring home Australia’s sixth boxing medal — hopefully the first gold — and first since 1988.
Gallen will fight Huni on Wednesday, June 16 at the ICC Exhibition Centre in Sydney — the same venue where Huni defeated Tsoye.
