Fury vs Dillian Whyte fight date pencilled in with Gypsy King to bank mega sum

Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte’s highly anticipated heavyweight clash has been confirmed as the Gypsy King looks to rake in £24.5million.

Fury’s veteran promoter Frank Warren won the highest successful purse bid in boxing history on Friday with a staggering £30.6million offer to trump Matchroom Boxing’s £24million.

The fight is finally set to take place on April 23 as the former sparring partners prepare for what is being dubbed the Battle of Britain.

Undefeated champion Fury will defend his WBC belt while Whyte challenges for a world title for the first time in his career, while the promotion eyes a UK fight.

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is a likely venue for the historic boxing clash due to its retractable roof.

But The Sun claims other venues are also being considered to host the bout.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Usyk is now set to rematch former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in May.

Usyk was nearly Fury’s next opponent until a late bid to make the fight collapsed before Friday’s purse bids.

Fury, who won his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder last year in dramatic fashion, posted an Instagram story hinting that the fight will take place in the UK.

The WBC named No.1 ranked contender Whyte as a mandatory challenger to Fury’s belt after the Mancunian's defeat of Wilder, ordering them into negotiations while ruling that Fury keep 80% of total earnings.

Whyte will therefore only take home a guaranteed £6.1million in comparison to the Gypsy King’s £24.5million.
