Frank Warren has confirmed that Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury will take ‘priority’ over Daniel Dubois’ WBA mandatory order. Warren – who promotes Dubois and Fury – says that Triple D will look to stay active in the meantime and will get his shot at the title once the four-belt shoot-out has been settled.
Dubois is now expected to step aside and will likely receive a fee for doing so. The positive update means that boxing can finally hold the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era with negotiations already underway.
“He’s [Dubois] next in the rotation. It’s agreed by all the governing bodies, he’s next. But obviously, a unification that we’re working on will take priority. He’ll just keep fighting and defend his title. Him and Joe Joyce are in good positions for big fights next year,” Warren told Dev Sahni on the Queensbury Promotions YouTube channel.
According to Usyk’s promoter, Alexander Krassyuk, the undisputed fight is being targeted for a date between February 18 and March 4 in the Middle East – although Warren says there is no frontrunner for the location.
“Not at the moment, there is no frontrunner at the moment, it’s where the money is… Everybody wants to do this fight, we’re all up for doing it. I spoke to Bob Arum a couple of days ago, he’s been speaking to Egis [Klimas] (Usyk’s manager).
“My son George has been speaking to Alex [Krassyuk] and everybody wants it, we all want to make it happen and as I’ve said most importantly the boxers want it to happen.”

If the Usyk and Fury fight can’t be made for whatever reason, then fellow stablemate Joe Joyce has been named as the most probable backup opponent for The Gypsy King. While Fury and Usyk stared each other down on the side of the ring following the Mancunian’s tenth-round stoppage of Derek Chisora earlier this month, Joyce got into the mix as well.
“I’ll jump in the mix Tyson,” said The Juggernaut as he joined Usyk on the ring apron.
“Right, we’ll have it. Why don’t us three do a Royal Rumble? Big Joe Joyce is here, and no one calls you out but me, so if this rabbit doesn’t want it let’s do you and me at Wembley! Let’s go!” responded Fury.
Warren maintains that Fury vs Joyce is an almost certainty for some time next year.
