Tony Bellew has hit out at Tyson Fury and his camp, and claimed the unbeaten Brit never had any intention of taking to the ring against Anthony Joshua. Talks over a heavyweight showdown in December between Fury and Joshua appear to have come to an end after the two camps failed to put pen to paper on an agreement.
Fury had repeatedly urged Joshua and his camp to meet the deadline set by his team which would have seen the pair go head-to-head on December 3. That deadline was never met and both camps have since pointed the finger at one another, citing them responsible for the failure to get the deal done.
It has since been reported that Fury has made contract offers to Mahmoud Charr and Derek Chisora, having already beaten the latter in a fiery contest back in 2014. And Bellew, who is close friends with Chisora, has slammed Fury and his camp and branded them ‘the most unprofessional outfit’ he had seen.
“I can’t take a man seriously who at one minute says he wants to fight Anthony Joshua for free, and then in the next stance says he wants £500million to fight,” Bellew told the Daily Mail. “Then in the next stance he says he wants to fight two people in one night, and sends a contract for £2million to Derek Chisora, which he did do, because I’ve spoken to Derek. And he also sent a contract to Charr.
“In my opinion, what’s been done is that they’ve known they want to make a fight, so let’s throw AJ’s name into the hat, create massive hype and hysteria, then say we sent him a contract but we couldn’t agree it so we’ll fight him Charr or Chisora instead.
“How can you send contracts to two fighters when you can only fight one man in a night? He’s sent three contracts to three different people all to fight on December 3. They’re playing games here! They’re the most unprofessional outfit I’ve ever seen.”

It remains to be seen when Joshua will return to the ring and who against following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk to leave his fighting career in the balance. But Bellew has leapt to the defence of the former world champion, who he insists has never shirked away from a challenge.
He added: “Once again, Anthony Joshua just looks to fight the best opponent. He’s not fighting Charr; he’s not fighting Tom Schwarz. All you need to do is look back at the list of names on Anthony Joshua’s resume, and you realise this kid just fights anyone and everyone. That’s what he does.”
Fury has been criticised for his decision to offer deals to Charr and Chisora, who many believe are not realistic challengers to his WBC world crown. Charr is a former WBA ‘regular’ champion, while Chisora already has 12 defeats to his name, including three of his last four bouts.
