Fury adamant Usyk fight is "never gonna happen" as he stands firm on retirement

Tyson Fury has vowed a fight with Oleksandr Usyk is "never gonna happen" after closing the curtain on a stellar 14-year career in the ring.

The Gypsy King, 33, stated his intention to retire prior to his Wembley fight against mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte and the bout was billed as Fury's final showdown. However, there had been reports of a retirement u-turn just weeks before the heavyweight clash.

But after besting The Body Snatcher in front of 94,000 spectators, via a brutal sixth-round uppercut, Fury confirmed it was indeed his final fight. Despite calls from boxing fans for a unification bout against current WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Usyk, the Morecambe mauler has claimed he is "fully retired".

He told talkSPORT: "I’ve already been the undisputed champion. I’ve won every single belt there is to win. I’ve got nothing more to do, I am out, fully retired. Done."

Having held the title as undisputed cruiserweight champion, Usyk, 35, made the step up to heavyweight to face Anthony Joshua, 32, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September. Aimed as AJ's final clash before an undisputed bout versus Fury, the Watford warrior suffered the second defeat of his career as The Cat triumphed via unanimous decision.

The pair are set to re-kindle their rivalry in July after the initial rematch, scheduled for early 2022, was postponed due to Usyk heroically jumping in to help defend his homeland from Russian forces.

Despite ruling out a return to the ring, the Gypsy King claimed Usyk would stand no chance if the two were to have it out over 12 rounds. Fury added: "It's is never gonna happen because I’m retired, but let’s just say I’d punch him round the ring. Because he’s a middleweight, blown up."
