‘It’s the perfect fight I need’: Dillian Whyte announces his return to the ring following his knockout defeat to Tyson Fury… with the British heavyweight making his comeback against unbeaten American Jermaine Franklin on November 26 at Wembley Arena

  • Whyte has described the clash with Franklin as the ‘perfect fight’ for him

Dillian Whyte will end his seven-month layoff from the ring to take on unbeaten American heavyweight Jermaine Franklin on November 26 at Wembley Arena.

The 34-year-old Brit was last seen in action when he faced Tyson Fury for his WBC title in April.

He came up short in his bid to become a world champion when he was stopped in the sixth round by the Gypsy King in front of 94,000 fans at Wembley.

Matchroom have also announced three fights for the Whyte-Franklin undercard

Whyte is now set to make his comeback under new trainer Buddy McGirt, and has labelled Franklin as the ‘perfect’ opponent for him at this stage of his career.

‘He’s a good fighter, it’s the perfect fight I need. It’s a good fight to come back to,’ Whyte told Sportsmail.

There will also be another heavyweight clash on the undercard with Fabio Wardley taking on Nathan Gorman for the vacant British heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Craig Richards will face Ricards Bolotniks for the WBA international light-heavyweight belt, and Sandy Ryan will fight Mexico’s Magali Rodriguez for the WBC Silver super-lightweight title.

Sportsmail understands after speaking with Whyte’s camp that Alen Babic is set to face Oscar Rivas at bridgerweight.

Whyte will be looking to get back to winning ways after disputing the legitimacy of his knockout defeat to Fury earlier this year.

The Gypsy King landed a right uppercut before appearing to push Whyte – ultimately sending him to the canvas.

Whyte was furious and said the incident resulted in him sustaining a significant ligament injury. He also said he felt the contest was waved off prematurely.

Whyte has questioned the legitimacy of the knockout punch by Fury, but is now looking to get back to winning ways against Franklin

Speaking after the fight, Whyte said: ‘I’m not a moaner, I’m a warrior. And the bell went after the knockdown, they shouldn’t have stopped the fight.

The Body Snatcher went on to add: ‘They should give you a chance to go to your corner. I want another go again.’

Whyte has lost two of his last three fights against Alexander Povetkin and Fury. He avenged his loss to Povetkin, and has never suffered consecutive defeats in his career, but will have a dangerous foe in front of him in the shape of Franklin.

Franklin has won all 21 of his fights as a professional, with 14 of his victories coming inside the distance.

He has only fought once since October 2019, though, when he beat journeyman Rodney Moore in May.

His clash with Whyte will also be the first time he has fought outside the US as the 29-year-old looks to step up his level of competition.

The fight will be aired on DAZN, with the card dubbed ‘Maximum Violence’.
