Dillian Whyte has sensationally called out Tyson Fury and insisted that a potential bout between the pair would be ‘massive’ for British boxing. Fury defeated Deontay Wilder with a devastating 11th-round knockout at the weekend.

South Londoner Whyte has taken the opportunity to challenge Fury for the WBC belt he retained by beating Wilder in the third fight of their trilogy series.

It has been suggested that Whyte could be Wilder’s next opponent but the 33-year-old has hit out at those claims.

White has instead piled pressure on the World Boxing Council (WBC) to mandate a fight between himself and Fury.

He claims that it would be a ‘massive British fight’.

“Wilder’s got nothing going for me, Fury’s got the belt,” Whyte told Sky Sports on Monday.

“Why would I want to fight Wilder?

“Tyson Fury has been mandated to fight me twice and didn’t fight me, so now hopefully the WBC will force the position and leave him with no choice but to fight me.

“Let’s be honest, it would be a massive British fight, it’s a major fight for Britain, two British fighters fighting for the heavyweight world championship, that would be great.”

A thrilling bout between Fury and Wilder ended with the Manchester-born fighter delivering a brutal 11th-round knockout.

Wilder had twice knocked down Fury in a pulsating encounter. However, momentum swung after the seventh round and Fury took control.

Whyte has become the latest boxer to offer his view on the fight.

He has sensationally claimed that Wilder’s career could have been finished by Fury.

Whyte also believes that the 35-year-old’s team could have done far more to prevent the blows he suffered.

“He took a lot of punishment and it could have finished his career potentially,” he continued to Sky Sports.

“Last time out Mark Breland stopped it, which saved his career.

“This time he took way too much punishment and a lot of his corner were yes men and they allowed him to too much punishment, which could be very detrimental to a fighter’s body and his confidence as well.

“His ear was bleeding, he was pretty beat up. He was struggling from round three onwards.

“It could affect him mentally and he may not fight again. It may end his career, we’ll have to see how it goes.”
