Deontay Wilder’s trainer has sent a classy message to Tyson Fury after the Briton knocked out his fighter in the 11th round of their blockbuster trilogy fight on Saturday night. The Gypsy King recovered from being knocked down twice to claim victory in Las Vegas, sending his American opponent to the canvas with a big right hook to ensure he walked out of the ring with his WBC and The Ring world heavyweight titles intact.

It was an enthralling final chapter in this bitter rivalry, with Fury having the final say in the ring following three years of bad blood between the pair since their controversial draw in their first meeting.

Wilder was in no mood to be magnanimous in the immediate aftermath of the fight, apparently refusing to embrace his opponent after Fury was declared the winner.

Someone more willing to offer congratulations to the Briton was Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott, who addressed both fighters in a public message once the dust had settled.

He wrote on Instagram: “@bronzebomber Ah brother you already know I will walk with you through any storm and stand by your side regardless of any circumstances and our bond is forever unbreakable.

“What you and Fury did last night was unbelievable and the heart you two showed was astounding, love you brother.

“Tyson, Incredible fighter you are. You have a very uncanny way of bringing out the best in people and I really embraced this mission with open arms knowing we was going up against one of the best heavyweights of ANY era.

“With my man [SugarHill Steward] being your head trainer made the task even more intriguing. Last night we was great but you guys was greater. Congratulations on a victory well earned.”

Once he had calmed down, Wilder was able to admit that he had lost to the better fighter on the night.

“I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough tonight,” the American said.

“I’m not sure what happened. I know that in training he did certain things, and I also knew that he didn’t come in at 277 pounds to be a ballet dancer.

Meanwhile, Fury said Wilder had been “a good dance partner” but declared: “There is no more Deontay Wilder.”

The Briton also opened up on exactly what had happened when Wilder snubbed his offer of an embrace after the fight.

“I just said to him ‘well done’ and he said ‘I don’t want to show any sportsmanship or respect.’ I just said ‘no problem’,” he told BT Sport.

“He’s a sore loser and idiot. Do you know what, to be a top fighting man you’ve got to show guts and respect.

“He couldn’t do that tonight and that was it. 100% [it would have been nice for him to say well done] but it’s up to him.

“I’m just thankful, we get out of the fight in one piece and we go home to our lovely families.”
