Deontay Wilder's trainer Malik Scott claims AJ is the 'bout he wants'

‘The ball is in his court’: Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott claims negotiations ARE happening for a multi-fight deal in Saudi Arabia… as he reveals Anthony Joshua is the ‘ONLY bout he wants’ for the Bronze Bomber

  • AJ returned to winning ways after outpointing Jermaine Franklin at the O2 Arena
  • Wilder is said to be open to a range of fights after knocking out Robert Helenius
  • It comes after Joshua revealed that he will not fight again until December

Deontay Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott has claimed negotiations are happening for a multi-fight deal in Saudi Arabia as he revealed Anthony Joshua is the ‘only bout he wants’ for the Bronze Bomber.

Two-time world champion AJ returned to winning ways after successive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk by outpointing Jermaine Franklin at the O2 Arena earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Wilder is understood to be open to a range of fights this year after knocking out Robert Helenius in the first round back in October – his first bout since suffering back-to-back defeats to heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

‘Saudi Arabia to me is the threshold of opening up what boxing is really about to be on a high stage with an extreme revenue,’ Scott told iFL TV.

‘I am on the inside of the meetings. Deontay has me sitting right next to him. I can say that those rumours are true.

‘Negotiations are going on and big fights are going to be happening, not just with us, but a lot of top fighters in the heavyweight division in Saudi Arabia.’

Asked about a potential fight with Joshua, the 42-year-old replied: ‘That’s the only fight I want for Deontay.

‘If we could get Usyk of course because he’s got the belts. I believe that’s a six round fight.

‘I’m very, very big on Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua. I believe that it’s good not just for boxing. It’s good for so many reasons. It’s a treat to society.

‘I believe that Deontay fighting Anthony Joshua is that type of fight that motivates not just the little kid in the inner city that’s trying to make it to the top to provide for their family, but also the businessman.

‘It’s good for mankind. It would be a real tragedy if this fight doesn’t happen. That’s the fight I’m polling for every time someone asks me what’s next for Deontay.

‘We’ll see. Deontay wants to fight. I want to fight. This whole side here wants to fight. We want to see what AJ does now. The ball is kind of in his court. We are ready.’

‘My next fight is scheduled for December. Not ideal but everything is part of a bigger picture,’ Joshua wrote on Instagram.

Joshua is believed to have suffered a nose injury in his win over Franklin, although it is currently unknown as to whether this has played a part in delaying his next fight.

AJ posted the word ‘momentum’ on his Instagram in the aftermath of the Franklin fight following his first win under new trainer Derrick James.

He has not fought more than once in a year since 2019, and had looked set to be more active as he moves into the final stage of his career.
