Data proves Jake Paul is ‘world’s most hated boxer’ while fans love Tyson Fury

Data proves that Jake Paul is the "world's most hated boxer" while boxing fans love Tyson Fury.

Research compiled by Gambling.com has ranked fighters based on the online sentiment towards them, both positive and negative, on Reddit and Twitter. Although Leo Santa Cruz comes out on top in the negative sentiment chart, his score is topped once Paul is factored in, with the data also comparing him to his rival KSI.

As a result, Paul has been named as the world's most hated boxer with 32.3% of the sentiment towards him being negative, compared to 18.9% negativity towards fellow YouTuber turned boxer KSI.

Elsewhere in the negativity charts, Cruz had 31.5% and finished just 0.1% ahead of unified light-welterweight champion Josh Taylor, who controversially defended his belts against Jack Catterall in February.

Deontay Wilder is third in the rankings before Paul is included and is one of four fighters to appear in both top 10s, along with Jermell Charlo, Anthony Joshua and Canelo Alvarez.

As for Fury, he tops the positivity charts with a 28.2% rating, finishing ahead of Shakur Stevenson and the aforementioned Alvarez.

Fury's thrilling trilogy with Wilder and his comeback to become a two-time world champion prior to this retirement earlier this year have seen him become one of boxing's most beloved stars.

Meanwhile, Paul is a polarising figure within the sport since making the transition from controversial internet celebrity to professional fighter.

Although he is unbeaten through five professional bouts, he has yet to face a fellow boxer inside the ring. His opponents to date have included mixed martial artists and a former NBA player.

His attempts to face a fellow boxer have so far fallen through, with two cancelled bouts with Fury's younger brother Tommy followed by his scheduled fight against Hasim Rahman Jr falling through at the last minute.

The pair had been due to face off at Madison Square Garden this weekend after Rahman Jr stepped in to replace Fury, but the bout was cancelled after weight accusations.
