Chris Eubank Jr says Liam Smith ’embarrassed himself’ in controversial exchange

Here, Express Sport is on hand with all the details ahead of the clash.

The 12-round fight will take place on Saturday, September 2 at the AO Arena in Manchester, the same venue that hosted their first encounter. The undercard will begin at 6.00pm while the main event ring walks are scheduled to begin at 10.00pm.

What happened last time?
Eubank Jr, son of British boxing icon Eubank Snr, was left stunned on the canvas as Smith was stood over him as the underdog had sealed a victory over his opponent by TKO in the fourth round. A shot to the chin shocked Eubank Jr which he dismissed as a “freak” incident before quickly triggering his rematch clause.
It was a result that surprised Smith himself, despite being confident that he could go toe-to-toe with the Brighton boxer. “There was nothing in the fight,” the victor said at the time. “I took more clean shots against Hassan [Mwakinyo]. I never even got going.”
What has been said this time?
The pair have already traded verbal jabs, as Eubank Jr questioned whether Smith would be prepared for a full fight. “There’s still a lot of questions that need to be answered,” he said on Sky Sports. “What happens when these two men get into a dogfight and they’re trading? No flash knockdowns. No jabbing competition. What happens when it gets saucy?”
Smith then asked the 33-year-old if he was “going to come for a fight this time?” Before Eubank Jr insisted that he would be the one celebrating, after lamenting his opponent’s previous post-fight party.
“When a man celebrates the way he celebrated, hugging and crying and ‘Oh my God,’ he was not expecting for that to happen,” he added. “That’s how I know he doesn’t really believe he’s a better fighter than me. When I beat him in the rematch, you’re not even really going to see me smile.”
