Chris Eubank branded ‘stupid c***’ by Liam Smith after sparring in Christmas hat

Chris Eubank Jr was branded a 'stupid c***' by British middleweight rival Liam Smith as he continued to put in the hard yards on Christmas Day before their fight.

Eubank Jr was meant to face Conor Benn in October, but theirbout was cancelled after the latter tested positive for a banned substance. Benn remains adamant that 'truth will come out soon' over the failed test while Eubank Jr has moved on to a tough bout against Smith.

But Smith, who has won his last three bouts, fuelled the flames by posting a furious comment about Eubank Jr sparring in a Christmas hat. He tweeted: "The same stupid c*** said he won’t give up nothing for Christmas for me, but is in the gym Christmas Day SPARRING."

Fans were quick to tell Smith that he had 'fallen' for mind games of his British rival. @redIanL6 tweeted: "You’re falling into his trap though … you’re arsed about what he’s doing … all mind games and he keeps winding people in … Whatever he says he’s taking the p***…surprised you fell for it surprised you are even arsed …unless it’s to sell tickets etc of course."

Smith had previously warned Eubank Jr that he made a 'big mistake' fighting him. He warned his rival: "He’s making a big mistake fighting me. Every time he has stepped up to elite level, he has failed.

"If he was at 60 percent for the fight that never was against Conor Benn, then he’ll need to be at 160 percent to be ready to face me, a former world champion, in front of thousands of my fans in the North-West. For Chris this is a high-risk, low-reward."

The former IBO supper-middleweight champion lost his title of George Groves in February 2018 and has since gone on a six-fight winning run. Talking about his Christmas sparring session with Sky Sports, Eubank Jr said: "I've got to stay in the gym and we're doing eight rounds of body sparring today.

"I've got a big Christmas dinner coming up later on so I've got to cut some weight before I put on those pounds. Liam Smith has gone on record saying that he nearly dropped me with a body shot, a couple of years ago when we sparred.

"I don't remember that, but just in case it's true I've got to make sure my stomach area is in tip-top shape."
