Carl Froch launches attack on Anthony Joshua again after hearing ‘inside info’
Deontay Wilder speaks exclusively with Mirror Fighting on Anthony Joshua fight and MMA move
Carl Froch has reignited his feud with Anthony Joshua and claimed the heavyweight boxer refused to follow the instructions of his previous trainer. Joshua has changed his coach three times in the space of two years after parting ways with Rob McCracken following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk, but Froch has claimed it was Joshua – not McCracken – who was to blame for the British fighter’s decline.
McCracken was regarded as the main man behind Joshua’s journey to winning gold at the Olympics. But he found himself without a job after Joshua made the decision to part ways with his trainer in the aftermath of his defeat to Usyk on points back in September 2021.
By the time of the Saudi Arabia rematch, Joshua had hired American Robert Garcia to help him prepare for his next fight. But the pair fell out when he found himself on the losing side again after 12 rounds – and a subsequent fallout with Garcia forced him to change his trainer again.
Joshua linked up with Derrick James in America and he returned to action with victory over Jermaine Franklin in April. With fights lined up against Dillian Whyte and Deontay Wilder, it appears Joshua has put to bed any claims over his retirement from the sport after a difficult period.

But when asked for his opinion on the 33-year-old’s struggles in that timeframe on the Up Front with Simon Jordan podcast, former WBC and IBF super-middleweight champion Froch, 44, accused Joshua of refusing to listen to McCracken and said he “totally disregarded him”.
“It’s quite simple. It’s a really short answer. He didn’t listen to Rob McCracken,” Froch said.
“He didn’t do what he was told. He totally disregarded him. And that relationship broke down, and Rob wasn’t in the corner for the rematch. He must’ve known that their relationship was going to end.
“Because I’m friends with Rob, and because I have conversations with him, I can’t talk too much about what me and Rob talk about. All I will say is, it’s quite easy for everybody who saw that first fight to see that Anthony Joshua did not listen to Rob McCracken.

“And the training camp – I know by the way because you get little insights from the camp and you hear other people talking about it, I’m not talking about Rob – not wanting to do hard runs. Not wanting to spar.
“If you don’t do that sparring and you don’t do the running, they’re the two most important fundamental things, you’re not ready for the fight.”
It is not the first time Froch has taken a swipe at Joshua in their long-running war of words. Having labelled Joshua a “clown”, back in May, Froch suggested Joshua’s wins over a ‘fat’ Andy Ruiz Jr and ‘old’ Wladimir Klitschko means he would barely have a lasting legacy in British boxing.
“I’m not afraid to talk the truth.,” he said. “If Anthony Joshua retired tomorrow, what would he be remembered for?
“He’d be remembered for beating an old Klitschko that had been sat on the sofa for 18 months and then climbed off the canvas to do it in a great win, yes. But he did not beat the best version of Klitschko.”
