Carl Froch and George Groves going on tour to open up on boxing rivalry

George Groves has announced that he will be going on tour with former rival Carl Froch later this year, with the pair expected to discuss the ins and outs of their bitter feud.

The tour, titled ‘An Evening with Carl Froch and George Groves’, is set to span a range of venues up and down the UK from Bristol to Glasgow, with tickets available for £100.

Fans will be able to take part in a Q&A session with the pair, as well as an auction to raise money for the WBC Cares UK charity.

Groves and Froch fought twice between 2013 and 2014, with Froch winning both contests via knockout.

While the second bout was a clear-cut win for Froch, finishing his opponent brutally in the eighth round, their first fight proved particularly controversial.

Groves started the bout well, dropping Froch in the first round. He remained up on the judges’ scorecards, but in the ninth round, Froch landed a flurry that appeared to wobble Groves.

The Cobra continued to land and referee Howard Foster called a stop to the contest. Groves protested immediately after, and many fans considered the stoppage premature.

The rematch was ordered just a few months following the fight and what was previously a bitter rivalry between the pair became a genuine hatred of one another.

Now, with both men retired from professional boxing, the former opponents are set to go on a tour across the UK.

Interestingly, Froch recently discussed his plans to come out of retirement and box again in an exhibition fight. In an interview with talkSPORT’s White and Jordan, the Cobra claimed he had been approached by a company and was keen on a return fight, provided the price is right.

“Listen, we’ve been approached by a company – I won’t say who it is yet.

“They’re trying to set up one of these fights like when Roy Jones fought Mike Tyson – actually classed as an exhibition contest.

“But if I go in there and it does work out that it happens, I ain’t gonna be taking any punches on my new nose let me tell you.

“I won’t be getting that flattened.”

Who knows, perhaps there may be one more chapter in the Froch vs Groves rivalry.
