Canelo Alvarez predicts when he will knock out Caleb Plant ahead of title fight
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is predicting he will knock out Caleb Plant between the seventh and ninth round in their super-middleweight unification showdown on Saturday.
WBC, WBA and WBO champion Canelo meets IBF king Plant in Las Vegas this weekend with the former looking to cap a sensational 12 months with another title win.
The Mexican has beaten previously undefeated Britons Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders in that period, either side of a demolition job on Avni Yildirim in February, and is now seeking to unify the 168lbs division at Plant’s expense.
Only five men have reigned as undisputed champion in the four-belt era with Canelo looking to join Bernard Hopkins, Jermain Taylor, Terence Crawford, Oleksandr Usyk and current super-lightweight king Josh Taylor in achieving that feat.
‘For me it does mean a lot. For my history, for my legacy, it means a lot.
‘That’s why we are here and Saturday night, we are gonna make history,’ Canelo said after arriving in Vegas on Tuesday.
‘He’s a good fighter with a lot of skills, but he’s nothing new for me. I’ve been in there with a lot of good fighters, so it’s nothing different.
‘I think in my opinion, it’s going to be seven to nine rounds.’
Canelo and Plant will come face-to-face again tonight in their final press conference.
The two were involved at a wild brawl in a presser to announce their bout in September which left the American with a cut below his eye.
