Boxer placed in medically-induced coma following brutal knockout defeat
Kazakh boxer Aidos Yerbossynuly has been placed in a medically induced coma after he was knocked out during a brutal defeat.
Yerbossynuly, 30, suffered the first loss of his career to David Morrell on Saturday night as he was stopped in the 12th round in Minneapolis. He had been floored twice in the final round before referee Tony Weeks waved it off and Yerbossynuly was taken to hospital afterwards to undergo evaluation
His assistant trainer Emmanuel Savoy confirmed he had wanted to throw in the towel during the one-sided contest, with the super middleweight taking some heavy blows throughout. Yerbossynuly has now been placed in a medically-induced coma following surgery after suffering a bleed on his brain.

Savoy added: "I actually had the towel in my hand. Aidos wanted to continue. His head coach wanted him to continue. He evaluated Aidos and said nothing was wrong with him."
Discussing one of the shots that floored Yerbossynuly, cornerman Savoy said: "He acknowledged the ref. He looked up and said, yes, he wanted to continue. As a corner, I think he still wanted to fight. He wanted to fight all the way to the end."
Over 70 percent of the blows Yerbossynuly took were to his head, with the Kazakh suffering a cut to his nose and swelling to his right eye.
A statement from Premier Boxing Champions, who hosted the card, read: "Representatives of TGB Promotions and PBC are on the ground in Minneapolis with Aidos' team and we are monitoring the situation closely.
"Out of respect for he and his family's privacy, we can't share any details but we ask the boxing community to keep him in your thoughts and prayers."
Yerbossyuly had won all 16 of his previous fights and was ranked as the No.1 contender for the WBA super-middleweight crown, currently held by Canelo Alvarez.
