Ben Askren says he ‘let the world down’ by embarrassingly losing his boxing match in the first round to YouTuber Jake Paul.

The former UFC man was expected to complete a routine victory over Paul, who only turned professional through his surge of popularity in YouTube boxing but that proved not to be the case.

Askren has been widely criticised by many including UFC legend Daniel Cormier who accused him of ‘laughing to the bank’ after it was revealed he would pocket $500,000 despite losing, according to TalkSPORT.

The 36-year-old was embarrassingly defeated in a first-round knock-out by the YouTuber 

Askren apologised to the world following the disappointing loss in Atlanta

The 36-year-old has since come out to apologise for the humiliating defeat, tweeting ‘Sorry world’.

He added when asked if the ridicule he would receive is deserved: ‘I got knocked out by Jake Paul – it’s f***ing embarrassing’.

‘I didn’t let the MMA community down, I let the world down,’ Askren told reporters post-fight. ‘People f***ing hate Jake Paul, and they wanted me to make him miserable.’ 

In the aftermath of the defeat, Askren was seen laughing with his wife which led to him coming in for heavy criticism.

Askren says he would not compete again following the loss and said he would take the money he earned to help towards his coaching career.

Paul is now 3-0 in boxing and took the opportunity after the win to call out Conor McGregor once again.

But fellow UFC man Dillon Danis has vowed to ‘save MMA’ by defeating the YouTuber-turned-boxer, saying he was ‘(sic) gonna put this c*** out cold’.
