Andy Ruiz Jr is set to return to action in September and could face Dillian Whyte in the Brit’s debut on American soil.
Ruiz Jr last competed in May against heavyweight veteran Chris Arreola and while the California native was victorious, his performance was less than convincing against a fighter he should have beaten comfortably.
Since the bout, Ruiz Jr has continued to train under famed coach Eddie Reynoso and alongside Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia, and Oscar Valdez in arguably the best stable of boxers around right now.
It seems that Ruiz is now ready to return to action and he has two targets in mind for his next bout.
According to Fox Deportes, Ruiz Jr's management have entered talks with Whyte as well as Cuba’s Luis Ortiz, a former opponent of Deontay Wilder and Dave Allen.
While talks haven’t progressed with either man as of yet, both fights have the potential to be seriously exciting.
Ortiz has only fought once since his devastating knockout loss to Deontay Wilder back in 2019. However, the 42-year-old silenced claims that he might have been starting to show his age with a 45-second knockout of Alexander Flores in November last year.
Whyte has been slightly more active, fighting twice in the last year. He was knocked out by Alexander Povetkin in 2020 but defeated the Russian in a rematch earlier this year.

Since that bout, Whyte has been vocal about wanting to face one of the heavyweight division’s big names and a victory over Ruiz Jr would surely set up a bout with Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury, or Wilder.
Whyte and Ruiz have traded insults in the past, making a clash between the pair all the more interesting. Most recently, the Body Snatcher mocked the Mexican-American for failing to knock out Arreola in their fight earlier this year.
“These guys saying this about me, saying that about me – and you can’t stop Chris Arreola,” Whyte said.
“I thought Chris Arreola won the fight, to be honest, I had Chris Arreola winning by split decision.”
“And I’m not just saying that because I don’t like that guy.
“If I fight Chris Arreola tomorrow I’d knock Chris Arreola out in five rounds.
“That’s what I should do, I should just go to America and fight Chris Arreola.
“Just to knock him out, to show Adam Kownacki and Andy Ruiz that they’re garbage and they need to take my name out their mouth.
“He showed Andy Ruiz his level, that’s his level. I would knock out Chris Arreola.”
