Bullets fans urged to boo Magnay

Star Bullets import Lamar Patterson has called on Brisbane supporters to turn up the heat on former fan favourite Will Magnay at Nissan Arena on Wednesday night.

Ex-Bullets big man Magnay, now a Perth Wildcat, will play his second match in five days against his former club.

Despite his close friendship with Magnay, Paterson felt Bullets fans weren’t vocal enough against the former Brisbane star last Saturday in the Wildcats’ 102-90 away win over Brisbane.

“Will was one of my closest friends at the Bullets, so playing against him was fun and being able to bicker was good,” Patterson said.

“I heard a little bit of booing at him but I wish the fans would have let him have it a little bit more.

“I hope they boo the crap out of Will this time. This is his hometown but they should just let him have it now that he’s with Perth.

“Will’s a good sport though, and he’s a great person and a great guy.”

Magnay shrugged of the weekend jeers and promised to do the same on Wednesday night.

“It happens and it’s all a part of sport, but it didn’t shake me,” Magnay said.

“I had my family and friends there, and I know they care about me and support me so it’s nothing to stress about.

“I’m focused on Perth and what we have to do to win a championship.”

Magnay departed the Bullets controversially last year after signing a two-way deal with NBA club, the New Orleans Pelicans.

When the Pelicans waived Magnay last month, he made the decision to join the Wildcats rather than return to the Bullets.

Patterson said: “It was definitely a little disappointing he didn’t come back here, but that’s part of basketball. “That’s the business of sport.”

As Patterson well and truly know after his decision last year to leave Bullets to join the New Zealand Breakers.

However, he failed to fire at the Breakers and returned to Brisbane in March.

“Brisbane was always the first place in my heart,” Patterson said.

“I always wanted to be back here, and I’m glad it worked out that the club liked him enough to have brought me back.

“I’m in a better space being back here with Brisbane.”

The Bullets (13 wins, 15 losses) can ill-afford another defeat on Wednesday night in their bid to make the playoffs.

“We’ll hopefully be able to throw the first punch, throw the hardest punch and come home with the win,” Patterson said.
