Roman Reigns runs over Kevin Owens with golf cart at Royal Rumble
The Royal Rumble always throws up plenty of surprises, from shock returns to madcap survival attempts and eliminations.
But the WWE extravaganza featured one of the wildest moments in recent WWE history when Roman Reigns faced Kevin Owens.
The Universal Champion Reigns put his title on the line in a Last Man Standing Match, when the only way you can win is by incapacitating your opponent for the time it takes the referee to count to 10.
And after Owens threw everything he had at the Samoan 'Tribal Chief', the 'Head of the Table' decided to retaliate by getting behind the wheel of a golf cart and running over KO, as you can see below.
The moment was like something out of the Attitude Era when the Rock and Mankind brawled on Halftime Heat and also brought back memories of Rikishi running over 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.
However, the match didn't end there, with plenty more savage moments before Reigns choked out Owens with a guillotine to retain his title.
The evening began with Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler defeating Asuka and Charlotte Flair to capture the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship thanks to Ric Flair siding with Lacey Evans to turn on his daughter.
Evans was handed some form of foreign object by the Nature Boy, which she used to hit Charlotte with her signature Woman's Right punch, then Jax captialised by squashing her for the win.
Drew McIntyre and Goldberg delivered a smash mouth opener that saw Goldberg put over McIntyre and further boost the Scot’s resume as one of the top men in the company, if not the standard bearer.
McIntyre survived multiple spears, including one through a barricade, and even kicked out of the legendary Jackhammer, before a second Claymore was enough to put down the WCW icon.
Carmella had one of the best matches of her career against Sasha Banks, who delivered a real champion’s performance and helped bring her up to her level, before earning the win with her Bank Statement submission.
Bianca Belair’s emotional victory in the women’s Royal Rumble, which was entertaining throughout, will live long in the memory. She is a star, as is the woman who pushed her to the limit, Rhea Ripley.
Notable returns along the way included WWE Diva era stars Victoria, Jillian Hall and Torrie Wilson, but it was the powerful Ripley who made the biggest impression when she threatened to eliminate everyone in sight.
A final three of Charlotte Flair, Belair and Ripley saw the latter two team up to eliminate Flair, then go at it to prove who is the brightest newcomer in WWE, with the athletic and charismatic Bianca earning the win.
The men’s Royal Rumble didn’t match the quality of the women’s contest and at times felt a bit by the numbers, but the reunion of Edge and Christian was simply fantastic.
Captain Charisma entered at number 24 and gave a boost to his former tag team partner Edge, who was flagging having entered at number one.
Along the way a jacked Carlito made a cameo, as did The Hurricane, and NXT star Damian Priest made a name for himself by throwing Kane – the man with the most overall Royal Rumble eliminations – over the top rope.
Seth Rollins shocked fans by returning for the first time since Survivor Series and eliminating the fan favourite Daniel Bryan, before Randy Orton – supposedly injured since the start of the match – almost stole the win from Edge, only for the Rated R Superstar to prevail.
