Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre backtracks on Conor McGregor fight
Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre has seemingly gone cold on the idea of fighting Conor McGregor after mocking the UFC star's size.
McIntyre has continually discussed a potential switch to WWE for McGregor in the future, previously claiming he would feature 'when the time is right'.
But despite the 6ft 5in Scot trolling McGregor on social media as recently as January, he doesn't see a match-up between them taking place anytime soon.
He told TMZ: "I keep saying maybe Conor and I will have a match someday, but realistically, I keep saying he's the size of my leg. Then I look at my legs—I'm sitting right now and I've got pretty big legs—he's more like the size of my calf.
"So maybe not Conor and I, maybe one of our talented cruiserweights and Conor could have a match."
McIntyre teased the Irishman ahead of his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 back in January, tweeting: "Good luck tonight, McTapper…" in reference to his submission defeat to arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
While McGregor continues to chase more big fights in UFC, his superstar status and natural ability at trash talking would lend itself perfectly to the WWE, with the option of a lucrative crossover when he eventually decides to step away from the Octagon.
That opportunity is likely to be available to the retired Nurmagomedov first though, who McIntyre feels could still be a huge hit despite his more reserved persona.

"[Khabib's] so talented that I reckon he could make some noise, and if he can't make the noise himself, we've got Paul Heyman . We've got a few talented people who can carry the load when it comes to talking," McIntyre said.
"MVP has done a heck of a job for [Bobby] Lashley . Maybe that's another name to throw in the hat. But, [Khabib's] such an amazing performer in the UFC, and if he can't quite figure out that part, we'll make it work."
As for McIntyre – who is preparing for his WrestleMania 37 showdown with the aforementioned Lashley in April – he is eyeing a more feasible battle with someone closer to his own stature in the not-too-distant future.
"Myself and Tyson Fury have always been back and forth," he added. "So that's more of a heavyweight clash."
