Vladimir Putin’s security stepped in after Conor McGregor actions during meeting

Vladimir Putin’s security was once forced to step in after Conor McGregor made a grave error during their meeting.

Legendary UFC fighter McGregor is not often told what to do – nor is he easily scared – having fought some of the most dangerous MMA fighters on the planet throughout his career and ended up the victor.

But meeting the fearsome Russian president, who has now governed the nation for a combined 18 years, brought out a brief moment of fear from the Irishman.

It came when ‘The Notorious’ visited Moscow for the 2018 World Cup final and met the 69-year-old ahead of France’s 4-2 win over Croatia.

There, the former two-weight UFC champion was seen in a clip greeting Putin and enjoying a brief conversation.

And things appeared jolly until McGregor thought he could put his arm around Putin’s shoulder for a photo, which prompted one of the Russian security staff to intervene.

McGregor’s facial expression dramatically changed from excited to nervous after being warned and the pair then took the picture with the 33-year-old’s hands in front of him.

They did end the brief meeting with a handshake and a pat as McGregor respectfully bowed and went on his way.

McGregor later posted the picture to Instagram, where he called Putin "one of the greatest leaders of our time".

He captioned the post: "Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin," McGregor wrote.

"This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honoured to attend such a landmark event alongside him.

"Today was an honour for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.”
