UFC’s Jon Jones vows to quit alcohol and turn ‘nightmare’ around after arrest
UFC star Jon Jones has vowed to quit alcohol and turn his life around after his latest arrest in Las Vegas last week.
The former light-heavyweight champion was arrested for alleged misdemeanour battery domestic violence and tampering with a vehicle, according to police in the US.
The incident occurred just hours after Jones’s classic 2013 fight against Alexander Gustafsson, which he won via unanimous decision, was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Since bail was posted, Jones had not issued any public statements before he finally posted a clip of himself lifting weights on social media with a caption and a number of messages.
It appears the 34-year-old is attempting to turn the situation around.
“I have way too much trauma to consume alcohol,” Jones wrote on Instagram. “My brain simply can’t handle it anymore. I will leave alcohol in my past forever.”
Jones also promised to “get back on the horse” and to “turn this nightmare into the best thing to ever happen in my life".
The UFC legend was arrested in Las Vegas last week after his fiancée was allegedly found with blood on her clothing and face.
According to MMA Fighting, via a police report, officers had responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino on Friday morning, after which they were informed Jones was no longer at the site.
The police located and arrested him walking nearby, during which Jones reportedly smashed his head into the front bonnet of the police car which inflicted minor damages.

Jones’ fiancée Jessie Moses allegedly told police that the former UFC light-heavyweight champion had returned to their hotel room after earlier heading out for the night. She allegedly said he had been ‘a little bit’ physical with her and declined to allow pictures to be taken of her injuries or to take a domestic violence card.
Jones subsequently denied to police that he had pulled Moses’ hair or hit her, but did admit that the pair were having some difficulties. He is due to appear in court next month.
Jones is a sensation inside the octagon, and holds the record for the longest light heavyweight title reign in history at 1,501 days. His only career loss was a controversial disqualification against Matt Hamill in 2009.
