Former UFC champion Frankie Edgar looked almost unrecognisable, after opponent Marlon Vera landed a devastating kick on him to win their bout in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Edgar and Vera battled it out at New York’s Madison Square Garden at UFC 268, and it was the latter who came out on top as the emphatic blow secured him victory.
Vera landed the kick in the third round of their fight over the weekend onto the chin of Edgar, to send the 40-year-old onto the floor of the octagon, submitting him to his fourth defeat in five bouts.
The fight-winning kick caused the referee to rush in and instantly stop the New York fight, but this was not well received from the knocked down Edgar despite the blow to the face.
Following the remarkable kick, UFC fans took to social media to share their shock at the unrecognisable image of the American, as one tweeted: “I actually can't believe this picture is real. What the f***!"
Another also added: “This photo of Frankie Edgar from last night might honestly be one of the most brutal punchfaces I've ever seen."
Speaking about the winning blow after the fight, Vera said: “In the cage it’s my family or yours and my family is more important to me.

"We drill those things up the middle. I work hard. I go hard. That immigrant mentality, it’s forever.”
The 28-year-old went on to thank all of his supporters, right from his native Ecuador all the way to those in New York for his victory.
He added: “What a night. [To] conquer MSG was a dream thanks UFC for the opportunity, we coming for that belt.

"Thanks to all the people who support me; this is a dream come true. From Ecuador to Madison Square Garden!"
The remarkable blow was the icing on the cake for Vera, as the Ecuadorian fighter earned the Performance of the Night bonus for his impressive victory over the American.
Just minutes prior to the crushing kick, the pair were involved in a heated exchange at the end of the second round, after Vera gave Edgar the middle finger as they headed back to their corners.
Following the fight, the man from Ecuador had his say on his face off at the end of the second round, as he commented: “We made eye contact. He gave me like a tough look, so I’m like, ‘F*** you, what?’
"At the end of the day, he’s a legend. I wish him the best. He’s a fighter. A lot of people believe we should be hugging each other and bowing.
"Like, no. We’re fighting for money. We’re not fighting for fun or a medal. We fight to feed our families. I fight to become a world champion.”
