The UFC has signed Ireland’s Ian Garry, considered by many to be one of the most promising MMA talents in the world.
Garry previously competed in UK-based promotion Cage Warriors, which has also unearthed stars like Conor McGregor, Michael Bisping, and Dan Hardy, and became the promotion’s 15th welterweight champion last month when he defeated Jack Grant via decision.
In his interview after the title fight, an emotional Garry immediately shot his shot and asked the UFC to take a chance on him.
“I am here to prove I’m the best. I’m not here for money, I’m not here for fame. I’m here to be the best and I am going to the f***ing UFC. I am inevitable.”
“I said it on February 16, 2019. I said, ‘I am going to be the best, there is going to be no argument.’
“Now I’m sitting here at 7-0. Undefeated. A world champion. And I’m f***ing unbelievable.”
Garry’s title victory did not come without its setbacks, however. Just days before the bout, the 23-year-old posted a statement explaining that he had separated with his coaching team after they “abruptly stepped down.”

Despite this, Garry put on one of his best performances to date and dominated his opponent in impressive fashion. It seems Dana White was watching the contest and just days ago, Garry announced that he had signed with the largest MMA promotion in the world.
While fans shouldn’t get too excited about Garry’s immediate title prospects, given Kamaru Usman’s domination of the UFC’s welterweight division, he is already an excellent talent and, given that he is just 23 years old, has plenty of time to develop.
While he is relatively far from the finished article, the Dublin-native is a brilliant athlete and is constantly adding new layers to game, both as a striker and a grappler.
Provided he keeps developing as he previously has, there is no doubt that Garry will be causing problems at the top of the UFC’s 170-pound division in the years to come.
