MMA star ‘shot and rushed to hospital’ hours before fight after clash with guard

MMA fighter Bagdat Dyusembaev was reportedly shot in the chest following an altercation with a security guard.

The incident happened in a fitness centre in Moscow on Thursday, hours before Dyusembaev was set to take to the cage to face Russian Mikhail Avakyan at Hardcore Fighting Championships 22.

The Kazakhstani middleweight was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, though his current condition is unknown.

According to Russian outlet Tass, a police statement read: "During a conflict with a security guard of a fitness club, MMA fighter Bagdat Dyusembaev received a gunshot wound in the chest.

"The victim was hospitalized in the N. I. Pirogov City Clinical Hospital."

Dyasumbaev, who made his MMA debut last year, has only had two professional fights in his career, and lost them both.

His first defeat was a corner stoppage against Yaroslav Kuk, before Danila Volkov earned a unanimous decision win two months later.

Dyasumbaev then took a five-month hiatus from the ring and was set to make his return on Thursday.

The Kazakh's place in the co-main event spot now looks in jeopardy due to the shocking incident. The other main event sees 24-year-old Islam Zhangorazov going toe-to-toe with veteran Vyacheslav Vasilevskiy.

A number of reports claim Dyasumbaev has actually taken part in seven mixed martial arts bouts, and that his professional record is 2-4-1, those there's no official verification of this.
