McGregor justifies his confidence as he promises to ‘traumatise’ Poirier

Conor McGregor is ready to unleash the very best of all his abilities on Dustin Poirier.

The former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion goes head-to-head with former interim champion Poirier this weekend following the Irishman’s victory at UFC 178 back in September of 2014.

The lightweight bout looks set to catapult the winner into a title shot against the returning Khabib Nurmagomedov, adding extra pressure on the result.

McGregor, 32, is certain that he will once again have too much for his opponent, and has now gone one step further by describing exactly what will give him the edge in Abu Dhabi.

McGregor told BT Sport this week: ”I’m going to put on a flawless performance, an absolute clinic.

“I’m confident in all ranges. I’ve never been more confident in my endurance than I have been now.

“Dustin and his team may take a bit of disrespect from me saying I’m going to knock him out in 60 seconds, well it works both ways.

“They’re trying to say about the conditioning thing, we’ll see about that if you can last through the trauma I’m going to bring to you, then we will see what you’re about and the endurance.

“I’m all excited all across the board, I’m confident in all my skills, they’re on fire at the minute. Pinpoint precision.”

“It’s not about revenge and payback,” Poirier told MMA Junkie on Monday.

“It’s about prosperity, about putting my family in position to be successful.

“It’s about raising awareness to The Good Fight Foundation and helping bring awareness to people in need. It’s a lot of things. It’s about being the world champion. It’s about getting closer to that title.

“But it’s not about revenge. It’s about work and grind. That’s what it’s about: success.”
